Local music celebrity Dave Soroka
has made arrangements
with Donna and Roger Soviskov,
the owners of Joga's,
to host an open mic on the first Friday of every month.
Several Open Mics have been
held so far, and Dave learned a few things, and has refined the Open Mic
policies as follows:
The Open Mic will run from 7 til 10pm.
Performers signup at 6:30.
Sign up early and you can choose your spot in the lineup for the evening,
eg: if you want to open the show, put your name beside Number 1,
or if you prefer to close the show, sign your name at the bottom of the page,
or choose any other number you prefer.
Performers’ sets can be anywhere up to 20 minutes in length.
If you only want to do one song or recite one poem, that’s just fine.
Only original material is allowed due to copyright laws. All performance artists
are welcome: songwriters, poets, storytellers, spoken word, actors who maybe
want to try out a new soliloquy or a short sketch in front of a live audience,
etc
The Hat will be out for people to throw money into,
and all money that gets thrown into The Hat
will stay in The Hat until
a local songwriter or poet
or spoken word performer
is ready to take their show on the road.
All they have to do
is let Dave know they've got a tour booked
and he'll give them some money
to help cover the costs of touring.
If you’re a local performer of original work
and you are hitting the road and need a little help with gas money, motel room,
whatever...call Dave and he’ll fix you up. There’s money in the Hat right now.
Dave himself will be hosting these open mics
and when he's unable to he'll choose a guest host
from the rich treasury of talent
that surrounds us here in the Sunshine Valley.
